About The Project

This year marks the 60th anniversary of desegregation. On November 14, 1960 four brave 6-year-old girls Leona Tate, Ruby Bridges, Tessie Prevost and Gail Etienne made history when they became the first African Americans to integrate formerly all white elementary schools in New Orleans and the Deep South.

The New Orleans Four Project was created to celebrate and honor these courageous Civil Rights Pioneers.

As part of the New Orleans Four 60th Anniversary of Desegregation celebration, we launched this video message awareness social media campaign with a Call To Action Initiative.  This campaign will feature video messages of thank yous, congratulations and inspiring personal testimonies dedicated to The New Orleans Four. Be a part of celebrating our beloved living treasures who paved the way and CHANGED America forever. Tell them your story and why you are inspired by their dedication and commitment.

Civil Rights Interpretive Center

The historic landmark McDonogh 19 elementary school building is scheduled to reopen as the Tate Etienne & Prevost (TEP) Center in Spring 2021. The renovated mixed-use facility will feature education and exhibition space dedicated to the history of New Orleans Public School Desegregation, Civil Rights, and restorative justice.

Our partners, the People’s Institute for Survival & Beyond (PISAB), will relocate its headquarters to the renovated campus and conduct its signature Undoing RacismⓇ workshops. The second and third floors of the historic building will house 25 deeply affordable residential units for seniors 55 and older.

Nola Event Planners Design & Production teamed up with Elephant Quilt Productions to create the
